Sony Further Relaxes its PVC Use Restrictions

Aiming to lessen environmental burdens, Sony has been publishing "Management Regulations for Environment-Related Substances to be Controlled which are included in Parts and Materials". It is commonly called the technical standard, and substances such as precious metals, organochlorine and organobromine are subject to it. The first edition was published in 2002, and in February this year they published the 5th edition.

Initially, this technical standard planned on prohibiting use of PVC altogether. However, as new editions were released, their PVC restrictive attitude relaxed. On this 5th edition, they further relaxed their restrictions on PVC and made more and more exemptions among their restrictions. It shows that their substantial stance on PVC has changed over the years.
