Prepaid gift cards sold at the

From December 2007, AEON Co., Ltd., which is the largest retail network in Asia who operates JUSCO supermarkets amongst other retail brands, launched the sales of magnetic prepaid gift cards made of PVC. Since AEON aims to promote recycling, they are collecting their used gift cards at their stores.
After 3 months of sales, the number of used gift cards reached 100 thousand. Cards collected from stores across Japan will be sent to JFE Kankyo’s plant in Kawasaki where they plan to utilize the used gift cards as feedstock for blast furnaces.
Used cards collected at AEON’s ticket depot come relatively clean; therefore they are also considering to material-recycle used cards to produce new cards in the future. To promote such CO2 cuts by diverting municipal wastes from waste incinerators, VEC plans to cooperate in AEON’s project. |
