Sendai city scraps its PVC avoidance provision

Since several municipalities have PVC avoidance provisions in their green procurement criteria, VEC has been petitioning to abolish them. In 2005, Metropolitan Tokyo scrapped their PVC avoidance provision from their green purchasing criteria for office furniture and home and office electrical appliances. Now, Sendai city has followed suit by completely abolishing their PVC avoidance provision from their green procurement guideline for 2008.

Until previously, Sendai cityfs green purchasing guideline had a PVC banning criterion for office furniture and stationary such as erasers. VEC explained to Sendai that the dioxins issue had already been solved, and that long lasting PVC has superior environmental functions.
