Nomination for REACH authorization of DEHP

There has been an update regarding REACH, the new European framework to control chemical substances. On June 30 2008, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published a list of 16 chemical substances including bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) nominated by the European Union national governments for inclusion on the REACH authorization gcandidate listh.
Regarding this matter, below is an excerpt from the letter written by the European Council for Plasticisers and Intermediates (ECPI) towards PVC customers:
gYou can continue to use DEHP with confidence. DEHP producers remain committed to the production and use of the substance in Europe. The results of the European Unionfs Risk Assessment of DEHP, conducted under the Existing Substances Regulation EEC 793/93, have proven that any risks arising from the production and use of DEHP can be adequately controlled. On this basis, DEHP should receive an authorization for the vast majority of its uses. h
