Protection Performance Test of PVC Sidings from Hydrogen Sulfide Corrosion Starts

Near volcanoes and hot springs, some damages by sulfur (sulfurated hydrogen/oxidized sulfur) have been often seen on concrete and others, and many buildings have been affected. Therefore, in order to protect concrete from sulfurated hydrogen, a study on the performance of PVC sidings started December 2010 at an exposure test site of Kyushu University, in Kirishima-city, Kagoshima prefecture.
The test site is located in a national park, where is 4 to 5 km east of Mt. Shin-moedake. It is a mountain in the Kirishima volcanic range, and became volcanically active in the last half of this January.
