De-chlorination and Fuel Production Technology Development Program Progressed by Taiheiyo Cement Corporation

The project on “de-chlorination and fuel production technology development from PVC-containing waste plastics” successfully completed at the end of March. In December 2011 Taiheiyo Cement Corporation (Minato-ku, Tokyo) started the project co-sponsored by VEC through our Recycling Support Subsidy Program.

The research involves the production of fuel in cement production or boiler fuel from PVC-containing waste plastics. When the waste plastics will be de-chlorinated by adding alkalinity control agent in a kiln, the char will be generated. After the char is rinsed to desalt, it will be used as a fuel.

We expect that the research and development would successfully lead to a spread of PVC recycling.
